On July 21 of every year, Americans celebrate National Hot Dog Day. Although no one knows for sure where the original hot dog came from, 1893 was a big year for wieners in buns. That year's Colombian Exposition in Chicago saw crowds of visitors enjoying the simple treat for the first time. From then on, the hot dog habit has increased, and today the average American eats 60 hot dogs every year.

1. Start your celebration with a hot dog breakfast. Try scrambling a few eggs with slices of hot dogs to enhance the taste. Top your eggs with grated cheese and a generous dab of ketchup.

2. Head to the beach. Pack your sun screen, a cooler of drinks and some sausages for snacks during the day. Play "Pig in the Middle" on the sand, with your friends and a football.

3. Host a hot dog potluck. Invite your friends and neighbors to bring their favorite wiener dishes and enjoy all of the creations. Supply ice cream in cones for dessert.

4. Go to a ball game and cheer on your local team. Celebrate with a hot dog with all of the fixings.
