Step 1
Measure yourself. Take accurate measurements of your bust, waist, hips, and inseam. Know your actual weight and height so that you find the correct size for your body. There's nothing worse than shapewear that's too tight.
-
Step 2
Decide what you need. If you need a foundation garment for a specific event, buy the outfit first and then find the right foundation garments so that you don't end up with too much or too little coverage. If you'd like to invest in one piece that works for all of your clothing, consider an "all the way" shaper with clear straps that starts at the bust and ends at the knee or mid-calf.
-
Step 3
Buy at least one foundation garment that has a built in strapless bra for dresses and halters. Choose a nude color to make sure that the shapewear isn't visible under your clothes. Black only works with dark clothing, and white is actually visible even under white clothing.
-
Step 4
Avoid buying a foundation garment that is binding, poorly made, or doesn't breathe. There are plenty of high quality options on the market, so don't settle for less than the best on this one. Arm yourself with the right arsenal of foundation garments and you can look like a movie star in any ensemble.

on 9/17/2009 I am of the opinion that large ladies look bad when their clothes don't fit or if the jiggle like a bowl of jello when they walk. I would gladly wear a foundation garment if I could find one that fits!! But they don't make a 5X. Help me!
