How to Make Thanksgiving Placemats

Have you started planning your Thanksgiving dinner yet? Planning and preparing the traditional Turkey Day feast requires time and energy, but the reward is a memorable day with family and friends. With just a little time and a few basic craft supplies, you can involve your children in the flurry of activity and have some colorful placemats for your Thanksgiving table too.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Large construction paper in fall colors
  • Smaller construction paper in a variety of colors
  • White craft glue or a glue stick
  • Child-safe scissors
  • Colored markers
  • Plastic laminate

    Thanksgiving "Turkey" Placemats

  1. Step 1

    Paint the child's thumb and palm with brown craft paint.

  2. Step 2

    Use a variety of colors to dab paint on remaining fingertips.

  3. Step 3

    Press the child's hand onto the construction paper.

  4. Step 4

    Allow the paint to dry.

  5. Step 5

    Give your child the markers to draw eyes, legs, feet, wattles and any other desired decoration on the "turkey."

  6. Step 6

    Cover with clear contact paper to make the placemat durable and easy to clean.

  7. Thankful Placemats

  8. Step 1

    Give your child a pile of old magazines and let him cut out pictures that represent things for which he is thankful.

  9. Step 2

    Help her glue the pictures to a piece of construction paper.

  10. Step 3

    Ask your child to write his name on the placemat, along with any other drawings he wants to add.

    Laminate with clear plastic.

  13. Step 1

    Help your child draw Thanksgiving dinner food items on the smaller pieces of construction paper with the markers and cut them out.

  14. Step 2

    Glue the 'food' on the large construction paper. Allow to dry.

  15. Step 3

    Write the child's name and/or the guest's name on the placemat. Let your child add additional drawings.

  16. Step 4

    Cover with clear plastic.
