Groundies is a fun playground game. Kids have been playing it for years. The following will show you how to play Groundies.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 4 or more players
  • Playground with play structure
  • Good balance

Step1
Decide who is "it" in the first game. Play rock-paper-scissors or simply decide by whoever is the last to scream "not it!"
Step2
Close your eyes and count to ten if you are "it."
Step3
Get your feet off the ground by climbing onto the playground play structure if you are not "it." Get away from "it" so you aren't tagged.
Step4
Find other players while your eyes are closed if you are "it" and try to tag them.
Step5
Stay on the play structure as best you can if you are not "it." There may be occasion when you have to climb or jump off to get from one place to another, which is fine. You just don't want to be caught by "it" while you have your feet on the ground.
Step6
Shout out "Groundies!" if you are "it" and you hear someone walking on the ground or if you think someone might be off the play structure.
Step7
Become the new "it" if you are tagged by the player who is "it" or if "it" calls "Groundies!" while you have your feet on the ground.

Tips & Warnings

  • If two or more players have their feet on the ground when "Groundies!" is called, do rock-paper-scissors to decide who is the new "it."
  • Be careful when climbing or walking on the play structure with your eyes closed while playing this game. If you are unsure about your footing, try to open your eyes slightly to look at your feet–but don't cheat!
