How to Dress for a Telemarketing Job

So you're now in telemarketing. You're wondering how to dress for your first day. Most employers will discuss this with you before or during the interview or when you get the job. Unfortunately they are human, and sometimes they forget.

Instructions

What Clothes to Wear

1. Launder your clothes as needed. Be sure to follow the directions for care; you don't want to show up in clothes that have shrunk.

2. Buy only unscented or lightly scented laundry products.

3. Wear slacks or skirt, a dress shirt, and a jacket or blazer when the dress code is business casual.

4. Start with business attire and watch what everyone else is wearing when in doubt.

5. Don any black or brown shoes except ones that are open-toed, tennis shoes or slippers.

Hygiene and Health

1. Bathe daily.

2. Brush your teeth at least twice a day. The best times to do so are in the morning before you leave and at night before you go to sleep.

3. Go to the dentist at least once a year and any time you have problems.

4. Drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day.

5. Get at least six to eight hours of sleep a day.

6. Eat a healthy diet and exercise.

7. Visit your doctor when needed. You can't work if you are sick.

Makeup and Perfume

1. Wash your face and use appropriate products.

2. Use unscented or lightly scented deodorant.

3. Spray perfume or cologne lightly. Too much can make you smell like alcohol or be overpowering.

4. Learn how to get your makeup to look "natural."

5. Learn which colors look best on you. Red, orange, black and white as lipstick or rouge should be avoided. Pink or brown hues look the best on most people.

Tips & Warnings

• Send employers a thank-you note with a small gift after you have the job.

• Avoid any product that has a strong scent. Employers or co-workers could be allergic.
