This eHow article will provide steps to cook and prep crabs for serving. Cooking whole crabs is not as hard as it may seem!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Crabs!
  • Crab pot
  1. Step 1

Boil water in crab pot. There are many pre-mixed crab seasonings you can add to the water, but I've always found salt to be more than enough.

  2. Step 2

Put crab into the pot for 10 minutes. Remove crab and cool. Speed up cooling by putting the crab in cold water bucket.

  3. Step 3

To prep the crab, remove the shell by pulling off the belly flap then using one thumb to to grab the butt end of the belly flap and other thumb to grab the shell. Pull apart the shell from the body.

  4. Step 4

Rmove all the innards and rinse. It's easier to prep if you break the crab in half. Simply put your thumbs at the center of the body shell and pull apart the halves.

  5. Step 5

    Rinse and serve!

Tips & Warnings
  • Once in halves, a simple way to clean the innards (yellow stuff) is to just shake it into a garbage bag holding the crab legs.
  • Watch out for pinchers!
