Assess what you need before you shop by looking at your wardrobe. Decide on any additional features you might need, like non-slip rubber soles or a padded foot bed.

There are many options available. You may choose a sporty flat with rounded moccasin toe in leather, dress it up with shiny patent leather or choose a trendy 4-inch wedge heel in a bright color. Decide what you like in heel heights, fabrics and decoration.

Determine how much money you want to spend. If you are going to be wearing your loafers often, you may want to spend more money for comfortable fit and quality.
-
4
Comfort is one of the most important qualities of a loafer. Consider trying on the shoes to get the best fit. You should be able to move toes freely and the heel should not slip.
-
5
Even though you know your size, have the salesperson measure your feet. Size may change as you age. Stand up when measuring your feet; the measurements will be more accurate.
-
6
Look for quality. Leather gives the highest quality because it breathes and ages well. Synthetic linings don't allow the shoe to breath, will cause odor and break down more quickly. If it doesn't say it has a leather lining, then it doesn't.

Tips & Warnings
It is a good idea to shop for shoes later in the day because your feet swell slightly.
Try shoes on both feet to be sure shoes fit both feet. If feet are considerably different in size, buy for the larger foot and add an insole for the smaller.
When trying on shoes, wear the type of socks you usually wear with that shoe.
