How to Run a Home Daycare. Operating a home based daycare can be a little chaotic and tough at times. But it can be rewarding for someone that wants their own business. It is a great alternative for parents wanting their children in a smaller and more personalized environment. Having numerous children in your home at once is not easy, but it can be successful with some structure and guidance.
Set your hours. If you do not want to run a 24 hour daycare and you want time off then set open hours and stick to them.
Write a contract. Have rules and guidelines for both the parents and the children to follow. This can include rules regarding payday and your pay rate, sick policy, late fees and any other issues that are important for you to run your childcare efficiently.
Have a set schedule for each day. Most children like routine so set a daily routine and specified times for breakfast, lunch, snack time, outdoor play, reading and activities.
Plan a food menu. Know ahead of time what you will serve for breakfast, lunch, and snacks if you plan to provide meals. This will allow you more time with the children and help you prepare when grocery shopping.
Have a designated play room. Since your business is in your home, this will help separate work from family and allow for some privacy.
Have a designated nap area. A separate area for play and for napping will allow those children that do not nap to play without disturbing the ones that do. Also, it gives you some freedom and a break while they nap quietly.
Incorporate learning activities and crafts on a daily basis. Children love to learn. This will keep them busy and happy, which will make your day much easier.
