How to Wrap Odd-Sized Christmas Gifts
Not all Christmas gifts fit easily in a box or a bag. Wrapping a bowling ball, golf club or houseplant can be a challenge. For those odd-sized gifts, you need a little creative thinking. With a few tips, wrapping can be fun.

Think Outside the Box
-
1
Buy a burlap bag for your over-sized Christmas gift. You can dye or paint the bag and embellish it with beading and ribbons. Buy the burlap bags at garden centers, feed stores or online.
-
2
Stuff your Christmas gift into a fancy pillowcase or sham. Tie both ends of the pillowcase with ribbons, placing the largest ribbon in the center.

3
Wrap the gift in fabrics. Velvet or fleece are particularly decorative. Tie velvet ribbons and bows to the velvet fabric and plaid Christmas ribbon to the fleece fabric for a seasonal look.
-
4
Cut PVC pipe to size for a long gift. Gift paper or paper towel tubes also work well. Using PVC is a great way to wrap a golf club. Pick a white pipe for the shaft, use a connecting piece for the club, and then swirl red ribbons around the pipe to make it look like a candy cane.

Find old drum style lampshades. Paint the outside or recover with holiday fabric. Set your gift on the interior bracing and use ribbons to steady it, stuff the remaining space with tissue paper that pokes out of the lampshade. A lampshade without the interior bracing makes it easy to wrap a potted plant. Use a wicker paper plate holder on the bottom to help hold the plant.

6
Look for old beaded handbags, backpacks or retro tote bags to use for Christmas gifts. Wrap the gift in several layers of tissue paper and place in the bag. Stuff the remaining space with tissue paper and decorate the handles with ribbon.
-
7
Search for old hat boxes or oddly shaped containers that will disguise your gift. A suitcase or overnight case can be painted, decoupaged or covered with sticky backed paper to use for a gift.
Shop Big Box Stores
-
8
Go online and search through websites for containers and ideas. Consider food containers as a way to wrap gifts. Add wrapping paper to the inside or out and a big bow on the top.
-
9
Shop at a home improvement store for large rubber containers that can be reused after Christmas. Trash cans can also be used for odd-sized Christmas gifts. Use ribbons strung vertically to decorate the trash can and a large bow for the top.
-
10
Ask the home improvement center if they have any appliance boxes. Most home improvement stores have large boxes in the back that they will be glad to give away. These boxes are large enough to hold refrigerators and can wrap a bicycle nicely. Also buy a can of spray paint for the box. Using wrapping paper for such a large box would take too much paper.
