Things You'll Need:
- Clear glass plate
- Floral printed paper napkins
- Scissors
- Glass cleaner
- Lint free cloth
- Decoupage medium
- Flat paintbrushes
- White glass paint
- Clear spray varnish
-
Step 1
Cut the flowers and other attractive images from the napkins. For best results, peel away the bottom layers of the napkins using only the top printed layers.
-
Step 2
Experiment with your design by placing the images on the plate as you cut them out. Change the layout until you find one you like and then determine how many images you'll need.
-
Step 3
Clean the front and back of your plate using glass cleaner and a lint free cloth or paper towel. Then place the plate face down on your work surface.
-
Step 4
Choose an area on the back of the plate to begin the decoupage process. Remember you're working in reverse so any images you want in the forefront should be applied first.
-
Step 5
Use a paintbrush to apply a thin even layer of glue to the plate. Paint an area slightly larger than the image you are going to apply. Place the napkin image face down in the glue and use your fingers to lightly press the napkin to the plate. Then apply another layer of glue over the back of the napkin to seal it into place.
-
Step 6
Repeat Step 5 until you have applied all the images you want on your plate.
-
Step 7
Allow the decoupage glue to dry and apply a thin even layer of white glass paint to the entire back of the plate. Once dry, spray a layer of clear varnish on the back of the plate to seal the paint and let dry in a well ventilated area.
