Making Halloween costumes for kids need not be expensive or time-consuming. This funny jellyfish Halloween costume uses simple materials and takes only minutes to put together. It's also a particularly convenient Halloween costume for kids, because it's easy to take off and put on. If you have several kids, consider making one for each of them. A school of jellyfish will look more realistic than just one. Read on to learn how.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Transparent bubble umbrella
  • Large sheet of bubble wrap, as long as the circumference of the umbrella
  • Scissors
  • Heavy-duty stapler or heavy clear tape
  • White or silver clothing
  1. Step 1

Spread out a sheet of bubble wrap. Starting at one of its longer ends, cut the bubble wrap into strips, being careful not to cut straight through to the other side. You will end up with an opened "hula skirt" of bubble wrap.

  2. Step 2

Open the umbrella, and staple or tape the uncut edge of the bubble wrap to the edge of the umbrella. The bubble-wrap tentacles should hang down like a fringe from the edge of the umbrella.

  3. Step 3

Fill in any gaps in the tentacles with additional pieces of bubble wrap, if you have any.

  4. Step 4

Put on white or silver clothing. You can really wear anything under this costume, but white or silver most closely resembles a jellyfish color.

  5. Step 5

Slip under the tentacles, and hold the umbrella. Because the umbrella is transparent, you can look through its sides as you walk.

  6. Step 6

Open and close the umbrella or move it up and down to make it look as though the jellyfish is swimming.

Tips & Warnings
  • A bubble umbrella is shaped like an inverted cup. The sides of the umbrella go all the way down past the user's shoulders. You can often buy bubble umbrellas online.
  • The height of the bubble wrap determines the length of the jellyfish's tentacles. Longer tentacles look more realistic than shorter ones.
  • Use a regular umbrella, if you don't have a bubble umbrella. The final costume will look less jellyfish-like but will still be funny.
  • Tape or glue glow sticks to the interior of the umbrella for an underwater effect.
  • This funny Halloween costume is particularly good for rainy nights.
  • Attach a strip of reflective tape to the rim of the umbrella if your kids plan to wear this Halloween costume for trick-or-treating in dark or busy areas.
