How to Make a Little Red Riding Hood Costume

Things You'll Need:

• 3 yards red material
• Scissors
• Sewing machine
• Fabric glue
• Scissors
• Dress
• Black tights
• Black shoes
• Wicker basket

1. Use a dress from the child's existing wardrobe. Plain black, red or white dresses work best. Use a white shirt and plain skirt if a dress is unavailable.

2. Purchase black tights. Use plain black shoes.

3. Purchase a small basket from a craft store. Use the basket for collecting candy when trick or treating.

4. Purchase three yards of red fabric. Cut a piece of the fabric to measure 10" by 28", for the hood.

5. Fold the 10" by 28" fabric in half, with correct sides together. Sew the long edge together or use fabric glue.

6. Put the hood on the child, with the seam in the back. Trim the base of the hood to hit just at the child's shoulders. Sew the hood to the middle of the remaining piece of material.

7. Attach red ribbon to the cape to tie it around the child's neck. Use a sewing machine or fabric glue for this.

Tips & Warnings

• Put the child's hair in braids and tie red ribbons at the ends.
• Use face paints or eye liner to make freckles on the cheeks.
• Add a bit of blush for rosy cheeks.
• Use caution when attaching string or ribbon to children's clothing, they can be a strangulation hazard.
