How to Make Covered Buttons
Making covered buttons is an easy and enjoyable craft. Anyone can master the techniques in a few short hours or less if they purchase an automatic button press. The look and texture of covered buttons always adds a little extra flair to any outfit or costume.

Determine what fabric or texture will be added to the button. Always have a finished product in the back of your mind, and set a goal.

Choose a shank button slightly larger than the embroidered button cover design pattern.

Place the button face down on a piece of fabric and trace around the face. Ensure that there is enough extra fabric to cover the front as well as most of the back of the button.

Cut the traced pattern out and make certain it fits the button snugly. This will serve as the template for the button cover.

Sew a running stitch all around the fabric button cover about 1/4-inch from the edge.

Tug gently on the running stitch to draw the fabric together slightly. Insert the button, and continue to draw close the stitch until the button cover is snug and firm around the button. Tie off thread.
