Instructions
  1. Step 1

Do a web search for auto insurance in your city and you'll probably come up with a long list. Pick companies that your friends and family use, or check into other companies that appeal to you.

  2. Step 2

Know the make, model and mileage of your car so that you can get accurate information. Most auto insurance websites will ask you for some information before they give you a quote.

  3. Step 3

Input as much information as you can and get a quote. Be sure to have the quote emailed to you, or save it so you can check it later.

  4. Step 4

Compare at least four different car insurance companies and call customer service for more information if you don't understand the proposed policy or coverage options available.

  5. Step 5

Print out the comparison quotes. If you still can't decide, call one of the local branches of the auto insurance companies. Ask them what makes their company the best option for you. Most agents will give you a great deal to beat their competition, so mention what the other companies are offering.

  6. Step 6

Choose the best coverage for your needs and keep looking until you find the right fit
