Things You'll Need:
- Snowmobile
- Bullets
- Camouflage clothing
- High-powered rifle
- Hiking boots
-
Step 1
Condition yourself for a physically demanding hunt.
-
Step 2
Purchase a high velocity, high-powered rifle if you don't already have one. Bison are very big and hard to kill.
-
Step 3
Select a bullet that will penetrate, and not ricochet off of, the bison's thick, tough hide. You will need at least 20 rounds of ammunition.
-
Step 4
Practice your shooting skills using the rifle you plan to take on your hunt.
-
Step 5
Wear camouflage clothing in colors that match the terrain you will be hunting on. Hiking boots are a necessity.
-
Step 6
Aim at 1 of 4 areas, the bison's brain, shoulder, lungs or heart. The lung shot is considered the easiest and will not cause harm to the meat.
-
Step 7
Hunt Bison in Alberta, Canada. This is one of the few places where you can hunt wild, free-ranging buffalo. Tracking is by snowmobile and on foot.
-
Step 8
Book a guided-hunting trip. These trips are usually all-inclusive packages, including meals, a guide, field dressing and the head and hide of your buffalo. The meat is not always included in the price.
