Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet Explorer 6.0 or later
  • Windows XP SP2 or later
  • Windows live toolbar
  • Microsoft .net framework
  1. Step 1

Install the Windows Live Toolbar. Go to the Windows Live Toolbar website. Select "Download," and then "Save." Choose a location on your hard drive, and click "Run" when the download has completed. If you are running Windows Vista, accept any User Account Control messages that appear.

  2. Step 2

Agree to the terms of use, and click "Next." Choose between the "Standard" install, a "Combo" install that also installs Windows Desktop Search, or "Advanced" to choose the buttons that will appear on the toolbar. Click "Next." If you selected "Advanced," a list of available buttons will appear. Select the buttons that you want, and then click "Next."

  3. Step 3

Browse to the Windows Live Gadgets website and search for the "Onfolio" Gadget. Click "Download," and then "Save." Choose a location on your hard drive, and click "Run" when the download completes. Accept the terms of service, and then click "Next." Click "Finish" to complete the installation.

  4. Step 4

Create folders and collections. Click on the "Onfolio" icon on the Windows Live Toolbar. An Onfolio sidebar will appear. Review the list of collections and folders. By default, Onfolio includes a "Main Collection" and a "Getting Started" folder. To create a new collection, click the "File" icon and select "New Collection."

  5. Step 5

Give the collection a name. Select a file location (the default is "My Collections" located in "My Documents" in Windows XP, and "Documents" in Windows Vista), and then click "Save." To create a new folder, click the "New" icon and select "New Folder." Give the folder a name, and select the Collection in which you want the folder saved.

  6. Step 6

Save a Web page or link. When you want to archive a Web page, either right-click on the page and select "Capture Page to Onfolio" or click the Onfolio "Capture" icon in the Windows Live Toolbar. In the Onfolio dialog that appears, select the collection and folder in which you wish to save the Web page. Give the item a name or accept the default. Select whether you want to capture a link to the page or create a local copy of the page, which will include all text, graphics and links on the page. Check whether to automatically open the destination folder, and then click "Save." Your captured item will now display underneath the Collection in the Onfolio sidebar if the selected Collection is showing.

  7. Step 7

Archive a website. Right-click on a Web page and select "Capture Site to Onfolio." Select the Collection and folder where the site should be saved, and give the site a name. Choose whether to capture a certain number of levels of Web pages and whether you want to download selected pages from the site, or capture the entire site.

  8. Step 8

Click "Advanced" to select additional options, such as whether to capture pages, pages and documents or all files, set limits on the download of pages and sizes, and establish timeout thresholds. Once you're finished with these settings, click "OK." When satisfied with your settings, select "Save."

  9. Step 9

Capture specific text. To capture "Snippets," or selected text on a Web page, select the text, then drag and drop it into a folder or Collection in the Onfolio Sidebar. Give the Snippet a name. Choose whether to save with or without formatting. Select "Save."

  10. Step 10

Manage Onfolio items. You can copy, delete, rename and move captured items. To access these options, right-click on the item in the Onfolio sidebar and select the appropriate choice. Onfolio items can also be sent to blogging sites, exported to files and new collections or sent via email embedded in the message, as an attachment, or as a Collection. You can select these options from the context menu.

  11. Step 11

To search for a specific item, select the "Search" tab and type your search terms into the "Search for:" field. Click "Search item content" to search within items in addition to the item title. Select to search within the current Collection or all Collections, and select "Go."
