How to Reward a Husband for Housework

Flattery may go a long way, but if you want your husband to help with the housework you will have to work on a reward system. Give him something special to work for and he'll work twice as hard to please you.

Instructions

    • 1

Acknowledge and praise your husband. If you come home and your husband has cleaned the house-let him know that you notice. Be specific on the details too. Tell him how proud you are of him for doing such a great job on the sink.

    • 2

Try being practical about it. Your husband may need a little coaxing to get the job done. Tell him you will help him clean out the garage or whatever else he needs. Use a one hand washes the other approach.

    • 3

Offer an incentive. Give your husband a bonus for helping with the housework. Plan a night for him and his buddies at your house to watch a favorite sporting event. That way you can have a girls night out too.

    • 4

Feed him. It has been said that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Reward him for his hard work with a special dinner. Bake his all time favorite dessert for doing a little extra, like scrubbing the toilets.

    • 5

Bribe him. Lure your husband right into your housecleaning trap. Tell him you have a romantic night planned for just the two of you if he helps with the housework. He'll trip over the mop trying to get it done so quickly.

    • 6

Try the "Southern Belle" method. Sweet talk to him and be a victim to your housework-he'll be a hero and save you from the mess. If he thinks you need him because your poor-little-old-self can't do it, you'll feed his ego until those chores are done.

    • 7

Raise the bar. If nothing else works and you really need your husband to help with the housework then try this reward. Put on a French maid outfit and make him chase you around the house. Point to the things you need done while you smile and be sure to really wave your feather duster.

Tips & Warnings

  • If absolutely none of the above work then hide the remote. Make him help you or don't give it back.

  • Be careful. False promises can lead to an unhappy marriage so keep your word.

This was obviously written by a man. This article implies that somehow men are doing us women a favor by helping around the house. Hello...as I always point out to my husband, when we lived alone, we both did our own dishes, folded our own laundry, vaccumed, cleaned the bathroom, mowed the lawn and moved snow. So, just because he got married doesn't mean his only chores are mowing and snow removal...and, if that is the case, I will gladly trade. There is no way I will put a french maid outfit so he will do his share. I might however put on some heavy boots and kick his...
