Learn the value of your Pokemon cards. Like any trading card game, some Pokemon cards are more difficult to come by than others, and they each have their own values. On the bottom-right corner of your card, you will see a circle, square or star that indicates whether the card you are holding is common, uncommon or rare.

Invest your hobby time into becoming a Pokemon Master Trainer. The best way to reach the level of a Master Trainer is to know all the cards. You can achieve this by reading magazines that cater to the Pokemon crowd to build your deck, plan a strategy and begin trading.

Trade, trade, trade! You might not want to give up your rare cards, but it's the best way to acquire a solid Pokemon deck. If you're just starting out and don't have many cards, you can trade one of your rare cards for many common cards.

Devise the balance that works for you. This means finding out what ratio of Pokemon to Trainers to Energy wins games. In doing this, keep in mind the ratio of basic Pokemon to total Pokemon.

Besides the rare cards, the foil cards are worth more than normal ones.
Be sure that each card in your playing deck has a purpose. Don't include cards for no reason.
