Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Long black dress
  • Black pointy shoes
  • Tall black witch's hat
  • Broomstick
  • Cobwebs
  • Green and black face paint
  • Scissors or razor blade
  • Black stockings
  1. Step 1

Begin by selecting a black dress. Choose something that is floor-length and flowing, preferably with long sleeves and a full skirt. Thrift stores and vintage shops are great places to find old dresses with a bit of a "witchy" feel to them.

  2. Step 2

Use the scissors or razor blade to carefully fray and tear the edges of the sleeves and the hem of the skirt of the dress. Add one or two frayed holes here and there if desired. This will give the dress a tattered, weathered look--like you have been flying around the full moon for a long time.

  3. Step 3

Wrap a few cobwebs around the dress and the witch's hat cone and brim for a creepy effect. Tie a few to the handle of the broom or attach them to its bristles to make it seem old too.

  4. Step 4

Tear holes in the black stockings using the scissors or razor blade to make them appear as tattered and well-worn as the dress and hat. Remember, a witch is an old hag who lives in the woods and flies through the night so look the part.

  5. Step 5

Mix a small amount of black face paint into a larger amount of the green face paint to darken its tone.

  6. Step 6

Apply the mixed face paint to any areas of your face, hands and neck that will be visible when wearing your costume. Do this well ahead of time to allow the paint to dry before putting on your dress and hat to avoid staining them.

  7. Step 7

Accent your new greenish skin tone by applying black face paint under the eyes to create dark circles. Place a small dab on one side of your nose to give yourself the classic witch's wart.

  8. Step 8

Pick up your broomstick and off you go.
