How to Take Notes in OneNote 2007
"OneNote 2007" is a robust note taking tool. You can take notes with the keyboard and via "ink" on Tablet PCs and, in Windows Vista, with a graphics tablet. OneNote 2007 allows for both structured notes with extensive outlining, and free form notes that can be entered anywhere on a page. All notes, both ink and text, are automatically indexed and can be searched within both OneNote and some external search engines.
Things You'll Need

1
Start OneNote 2007. Navigate to the section and page where you want to take notes.
-
2
Enter notes. For typewritten notes, place your cursor on the page where you want to begin taking notes, and begin typing. OneNote 2007 places your text into a "note container," which is useful for managing your notes. On a Tablet PC or in Windows Vista with a graphics tablet, locate your pointer on the page and begin writing. As with typewritten notes, OneNote 2007 places your handwritten "ink" into a note container.

3
Create an outline from existing notes. OneNote 2007 can automatically create outlines using either numbered or bulleted lists. Format your notes in outline format, with major items indented to the left and minor items indented to the right. Select the notes, and the click the Bullets icon for a bulleted outline, and the Numbers icon for a numbered outline. OneNote 2007 automatically applies the correct outline format to the notes, whether typewritten or inked.
-
4
Create a new numbered outline. When typing or handwriting notes, assert your own outline by typing or inking the appropriate number for each level of the outline. OneNote 2007 follows your lead and applies an appropriate outline as you establish it.
-
5
Keep track of your notes. At any time, you can select "Insert," then "Date and Time" to add a date and time stamp to notes to keep a record of when the note was created.
-
6
Move notes. OneNote 2007 allows for the free-form arrangement of notes on pages and sections. To select notes, hover over text or ink until the Notes Container appears. When the four-way cursor appears, click on the top of the Notes Container and drag to the desired location. To move to another page, right-click and select "Cut," then navigate to the desired page, right-click in the desired location and select "Paste."
-
7
Add space. OneNote 2007 will automatically lengthen a page as you enter notes near the bottom of a page. To lengthen a page manually, click on the down arrow icon at the intersection of the two scroll parts on the right and bottom of the page. To add space between notes, select "Insert," then "Extra Writing Space," and locate the blue line in between the notes where additional space is required. Left-click and drag to expand the free space and push the lower text farther down on the page.
