You may wonder what an Olympic Heptathlon entails and whether or not you have the skills to compete in one. A heptathlon consists of 7 events and is open to women only. Read on to learn about the individual events that make up a heptathlon. The person who has the best overall score for all 7 events is declared the overall winner.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Participate in the 100 meter hurdles. This event involves leaping over periodically spaced barriers over a 100 meter distance. The person with the fastest time is declared the champion.

  2. Step 2

Ace the high jump. The high jump requires athletes to throw their bodies over a bar, shoulders first, back facing downward (luckily they land on a cushioned mat). The bar is progressively raised higher until 1 person remains who can clear the bar without knocking it off.

  3. Step 3

Compete in the shot put. This track and field event requires the athlete to throw a heavy iron or brass ball as far as she can. The person who achieves the greatest thrown distance wins.

  4. Step 4

Sprint as fast as you can in the 200 meter run. The runner dashes halfway around the standard 400 meter track. The fastest time wins.

  5. Step 5

Attempt the long jump. After sprinting down a runway, the participant will attempt to jump as far as she can, landing feet-first in a pit of sand. The longest jump wins.

  6. Step 6

Throw the javelin. This long pointed rod, hailing from the days of the ancient Olympics, is heaved as far as possible. It lands point-down in the ground, and the person who throws the javelin the longest distance wins.

  7. Step 7

Complete the 800 meter run. This involves 2 laps around a standard 400 meter Olympic track. The fastest time wins.
