Gymnastics is a lovely sport, but it seems to suit those of a shorter stature more. Do not despair. If gymnastics is your love, you may transition into another gymnastic discipline: rhythmic gymnastics. If Milla Jovovich learned to become a rhythm gymnast for her role in the action movie "Ultraviolet," why can't you?

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Learn regular gymnastics. You may do this by taking lessons at local gyms, which can be found in the phone book or online. Look for gyms or clubs that offer rhythmic gymnastics.

  2. Step 2

Work on stretching. You need to learn to put your body in difficult positions that require a lot of flexibility if you want to become a rhythmic gymnast. Natural flexibility is helpful, but constant stretching and, as Mary Sanders stated, over-stretching is required.

  3. Step 3

Work on cardio and endurance training. Because rhythmic gymnastics is a combination of ballet and creative movements to music, while also manipulating ribbons, balls, hoops, ropes and clubs in a choreographed dance-and-tumble routine, the ability to have stamina is crucial. Lift weights, run, and otherwise cross train.

  4. Step 4

Buy your equipment. You may do this through your gym, or through online sites such as Rhythmicgymnastics.com.

Tips & Warnings
  • Taking some form of dance like ballet may be a good way to learn grace and fluidity of movement for those not accustomed to rhythmic gynmastics.
