Decorating your home for the Christmas season can be a fun and enjoyable time for your entire family. Each person can join in by making their own decorations or by hanging up decorations you already have. The living room is usually the room where the Christmas tree is set up so it is a great place to start. Learn to decorate a living room for Christmas with these ideas.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide on a theme. If you decorate your Christmas tree in a certain theme (for instance, a country-style or perhaps a single color), you may choose to carry it out throughout the entire living room. You can also choose to use plain decorations in Christmas colors.

  2. Step 2

Start with your furniture. Get festive-colored throws and pillows for your couches and chairs. If you choose solid colors you may even be able to use them at other times during the year. Have a few extra for guests or for snuggling around the tree.

  3. Step 3

Hang festive-colored curtains or drapes in the windows. This will make a big difference in the look of the room. You can find colored fabric at a craft store to make into simple curtains, or find cheap solid colored curtains at places like Wal-Mart.

  4. Step 4

Place candles all around the room to give the room a soft glow. You can find seasonal candles available in Christmas colors and scents at most craft stores.

  5. Step 5

Wrap big boxes with Christmas wrapping paper and place in areas around the room. You can wrap the top of your coffee table to look like a gift.

  6. Step 6

Play Christmas music in the living room. This added, with the scent of the candles and the look of the room, will fill your senses with the Christmas season.
