Store your bookmarks online and you can access them from anywhere. Looksmart's Furl is one of many social bookmarking engines that lets you organize the information you find on the web. Follow these steps to use it.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to the Looksmart Furl website and create an account. You will need to think up a username and password and to provide your email address. You will receive an email confirmation message.

  2. Step 2

Click on the link in the email message to complete your account setup. Go to the Furl website and login to your account.

  3. Step 3

Locate the 'My Tools' tab at the top of the page. Choose either a browser button or a browser toolbar to automate the process of saving bookmarks in Furl.

  4. Step 4

Select the 'My Archive' tab at the top of the page. This contains a list of default Furl topics which will help you to organize your bookmarks or favorites. You may also add your own topics to the list.

  5. Step 5

Browse the internet as usual. Highlight some text and click on the Furl button or Furl toolbar whenever you find something you want to save.

  6. Step 6

Add keywords and comments that describe the page you are bookmarking. Furl will add the page title, web address and highlighted text automatically. It will also save a copy of the page to your archive. Assign the web page to a topic.

  7. Step 7

Navigate to the archive tab to find content you have previously bookmarked. The content is organized in reverse date order, but you can also filter results by topic. There is also a search form which you can use to find older content.

  8. Step 8

Repeat the Furl bookmarking process every time you find useful internet resources. Continue to add relevant keywords to organize your bookmarks with Looksmart's Furl.

Tips & Warnings
  • Your username will be public, so choose a name you are prepared to share.
  • A browser button, also called a bookmarklet, is the quickest way to save information to Furl. You can choose between basic and fast Furl buttons. The Furl toolbar offers more functionality.
  • You can import your existing bookmarks or favorites into Furl. However, you will also have to assign categories to every bookmark to make the most of Furl.
  • Adding your own topics to the list will make it easier to organize your bookmarks in ways that make sense to you. You can also uncheck the default Furl topics to hide them.
  • Use keywords (also known as tags) that will help you to find the page. It is better to use a broad category that will help you to find related resources.
