How to Catch an Online Predator
While there are many law enforcement agencies actively engaged in combating online sexual predators, there are steps you can take to keep your children safe. Here's some of them.
Instructions
-
-
1
Talk to your child about online safety. Predators will spend a great deal of time in chat rooms or on social networking sites.
-
2
Designate a time when your child can be on the computer and be sure to be aware of the websites your child is visiting. Become aware of your child's buddy list on instant message services and social networking websites. Online predators lurk on these websites every day.
-
-
3
Place the computer in a room where you are able to view online activity at any time. Being alone on a computer can encourage a child to
participate in inappropriate conversations. -
4
Conduct an online search to locate websites who are actively involved in catching online predators and volunteer to become a decoy.
-
5
Set up a junk email address at a free email service and use it to login to chat rooms where predators might lurk.
-
6
Pose as an adolescent and participate in chats with men who are interested in spending time with young children.
-
7
Keep a list of screen names of people who make suggestive or disturbing comments. Call the police to report illegal activities.

Tips & Warnings
If you believe that your child is chatting with a possible predator there are many excellent software programs that can be installed on your computer that will track keystrokes, images, and instant messages. If you discover online activity that is potentially dangerous to your child, print the reports and immediately contact the police.
Never give out personal information that may lead a predator to your door.
