Once you have played a few games on your Nintendo Wii, you might want to utilize its Internet connection features to download more games, send messages to your friends or even surf the Internet. Depending on your home network setup, you have a couple of connection options.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • High-speed Internet connection
  1. Step 1

Start by clicking on the "Wii Options" icon in the lower left corner of the main Wii menu. Then select "Wii Settings."

  2. Step 2

Click on "Connection Settings" and choose "Connection 1" if you have not yet set up a connection. If you are setting up a second connection, choose "Connection 2" or "Connection 3."

  3. Step 3

Choose whether you have a wireless connection or will connect your Wii to your wired network. If you have a wireless network, choose "Wireless Connection" and then "Search for an Access Point." If you have a wired network, ensure your network cable is connected to your Wii with the Wii LAN adapter. If the Wii did not come with a Wii LAN adapter, you will need to purchase one from a store or website that sells Wii products, such as Wal-Mart. If you have a wired connection, your Wii is now ready to use the Internet.

  4. Step 4

Hit "Search for an Access Point" to continue setting up a wireless connection. The next screen will display all the wireless connections the Wii found within range. Choose your connection.

  5. Step 5

Enter your security information if your wireless connection requires a code to log on.

  6. Step 6

Select "OK" to save your settings. You should now be ready to use your Wii Internet connection.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you do not have a wireless connection, but would like to use your Wii wirelessly, a USB adapter can be purchased from Nintedo that will plug into your broadband-connected computer to broadcast Internet access to your Wii wirelessly. The adapter can be purchased in stores or websites that sell Wii products, such as Wal-Mart.
