1
Use a search engine to locate sites that sell used textbooks. Be sure to compare several to get the best prices.
-
2
Gather information on the textbooks you are looking for. You will need the textbook title, author, publisher, copyright date and edition number. All this information is encoded in the book's ISBN, the identifying number that should appear on your syllabus or booklist.
-
3
Type the ISBN into the site's inventory search bar to search for the used textbook you need. The inventory search bar is commonly located on the website's main page. After entering the title, press "Enter" on your keyboard to perform the search.
-
4
Confirm that this textbook matches what you are looking for in all details, including any extras such as CD-ROMs that accompany the text.
-
5
Check the asking price for the textbook. The website will usually list their asking price on the same page that the textbook information is listed. Make sure to look for the "Used" price. Sometimes textbooks will be sold brand new from the same online store, usually at a much higher price.
-
6
Bookmark the pricing page so you can compare information among several online retailers.
-
7
Repeat steps 3 through 6 for several online sellers of used textbooks. When you make your choice, follow the seller's purchasing and shipping instructions.

Tips & Warnings
When purchasing used textbooks online, be sure to do so at least one month prior to the first day of school. This will allow plenty of time for the order to be processed and shipped. Making sure that the textbooks arrive before school begins is imperative.
Be sure a seller's website is secure before transmitting any payment or personal information.

Most of the time, if you enter the ISBN number, with and/or without spaces/dashes at your favorite search engine...you'll find good results. Do some price comparisons though, and don't forget to weigh in shipping costs, and shipping TIMEFRAME...amazon has a lot of books too.
