How to Make Gourmet Car Food

Gourmet car food will keep passengers in a vehicle from disturbing the driver in two ways: first, they will be so enthralled with the gourmet food options that they will be entertained; secondly, their mouths will be so full that they won't be able to ask how much further the destination is, or, infamously, "Are we there yet?" "Gourmet-four" (these four gourmet car food snacks) can be mastered easily. Additionally, these self prepared foods tend to be cheaper than roadside restaurant stops. Best of all, the snacks are palette pleasing.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Handful of chopped apple, celery, walnuts and raisins
  • Large container of vanilla yogurt
  • Spoon
  • Thermos filled with heated grape jelly and chili sauce (½ and ½ mixture)
  • Cooked meatballs (3 per person)
  • Popsicle sticks (one per person)
  • Wedge of brie cheese
  • Container of strawberry preserves
  • Hunk of fresh bread
  • Knife
  • Handful of gourmet popcorn
  • Handful of Cheerios
  • Gallon-sized plastic bag

Step1
Gather gourmet food supplies for snack #1: a handful of chopped apple, a handful of raisins, a handful of chopped walnuts, a handful of chopped celery, a large container of vanilla yogurt and a spoon. Stir fruit, veggie and nuts into the yogurt. Ta da! Healthy Waldorf Salad for the road, instead of for the Waldorf.
Step2
Arrange gourmet food supplies for snack #2: a thermos filled with heated grape jelly and chili sauce (½ and ½ mixture), cooked meatballs and a few popsicle sticks. While in the car, the cocktail meatballs can be poked with popsicle sticks. Ta da! Warm, skewered gourmet food on the go!
Step3
Assemble gourmet food supplies for snack #3: a wedge of brie cheese, a container of strawberry preserves, a hunk of fresh bread and a knife. While in the car, simply spread the brie on the bread like butter, and add the preserves on top. Ta da! Berry Brie Bread.
Step4
Toss gourmet food supplies for snack #4 (a handful of gourmet popcorn and a handful of cheerios) into a gallon-sized plastic bag. This kid pleasing gourmet snack is known as the Tongue-sticker-licker. This snack can be suspended from children's tongues and from the tongues of bored adults, too. Save this gourmet snack for the final hours of your road trip.
