Create an adorable Halloween costume from a basic pillow case with these simple instructions. Your toddler or child can be everything from a tube of toothpaste, a three of hearts playing card or even "white trash." So grab a spare pillow case and let's get started!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pillow case
  • Leggings
  • Shirt
  • Red scarf
  • Scissors
  • Iron on letters
  • Iron
  • White trash objects
  • White baseball cap

    Playing Card

  1. Step 1

Purchase a plain white pillow case and hold it up to your child, making sure it is not too long. Hem the pillow case to the appropriate length if necessary.

  2. Step 2

Cut six large hearts and four small hearts from a piece of red felt. Hot glue the three large hearts down the center of the pillow case, using a real playing card as a guide. Glue them on both the front and back of the pillow case.

  3. Step 3

Attach the iron-on numbers to the top left and bottom right corner of the pillow case using the package instructions. Glue a small heart under each number. Do both sides.

  4. Step 4

Make a paper crown and staple real playing cards onto the crown. Size the crown to her head.

  5. Step 5

Cut a slit in the top of the pillow case and two slits on the side for arm holes. Have her wear a red shirt and leggings and your child is now a playing card!

  6. Tube of Toothpaste

  7. Step 1

Slit a small hole in the hem of the pillow case near the opening. Thread a piece of elastic through the hem and tie loosely together. This will be the neck opening of the costume. Slit holes in the side for arm holes and two larger openings at the crease for the legs.

  8. Step 2

Cut letters out of felt spelling out the word "Toothpaste" or use a name brand as an example. Glue these to the pillowcase vertically starting at the bottom of the pillow case, near the crease.

  9. Step 3

Have your child step into the costume while wearing white tights and a shirt. Cinch the toothpaste at the neck loosely, tying in a loose knot or using a safety pin to secure.

  10. Step 4

Make the toothpaste cap by attaching a piece of elastic to a paper bucket, such as a fast food chicken bucket. Secure to your child's head after he has entered the costume.

  11. "White Trash"

  12. Step 1

Cut a small hole in the hem of the pillow case near the opening of the pillow case. Thread a red scarf through the hem and tie loosely together. This is the closure of the garbage bag and is the neck opening of the costume. Cut holes in the sides for arm holes and two larger openings at the fold for the legs.

  13. Step 2

Iron on letters spelling out "Trash" horizontally in the center of the pillow case following the manufacturer's instructions.

  14. Step 3

Glue small pieces of white trash to the outside and near the top of the trash bag. Examples are crumpled pieces of paper, cotton swabs, cotton balls, fake egg shells, white packaging and tissues.

  15. Step 4

Enter the costume by stepping into the bag while wearing white tights and a shirt. Cinch the trash bag at the neck loosely, leaving the red tie visible.

  16. Step 5

Make the hat from a white baseball cap, glued with more white trash such as an egg container or small milk jug.

Tips & Warnings
  • Adjust the number on the playing card to match your child's age.
  • Don't tie the neck closing too tight. Allow the child ample room to move his neck in the costume.
