Step 1
Make a list of current expenses. Estimate how much you spend monthly on groceries, utilities, household maintenance items and clothing.
-
Step 2
Decide on a budget and spread that amount among your expense list. Fixed items, such as car payments and rent, will stay the same while the other expenses can be adjusted to fit into your budget.
-
Step 3
Try to change services to fit into your budget. You can cut household expenses by switching to a lower monthly phone or cable plan.
-
Step 4
Conserve household items. You can eat leftovers often or consider making a compost heap.
-
Step 5
Figure out the things that you can do without. Cell phones, pagers, video games, movie rental memberships and other miscellaneous expenses can deplete your monthly budget. Consider cutting these expenses until you are able to afford them.
-
Step 6
Perform regular maintenance on your home. If you fix leaks around windows and clean the heating and cooling unit regularly, you will notice a drop in your utility bills.
-
Step 7
Go green. Turning off lights, riding a bike to work, taking short showers and hang drying clothes are not only environmentally friendly, but will also cut your household expenses.

on 3/31/2008 You can save on getting anything in your house fixed by hiring people directly (rather than paying a company's overhead). Check out laborfair.com, person to person hiring for all household services. Need it done for a fair price and feel safe doing it? Laborfair. Try it, you'll love it!
