Color contact lenses are a step further than makeup. They make a statement that is subtle, but one that can change a person's appearance noticeably. Color contacts can be worn by most people with healthy eyes, whether or not they have any vision problems.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find an optometrist that you can trust. Get a complete eye exam to make sure that you don't have problems that will make wearing color contact lenses difficult. Or, if you do not have vision problems, it is still possible to ask for a prescription for colored lenses.

  2. Step 2

Get fitted for contacts. Let the optometrist's staff test your eyes with their sizing machines, in order to get a perfect fit.

  3. Step 3

Ask your optometrist for a prescription for contacts, if you have any vision problems. Get a prescription that contains your accurate eye measurements, even if there is no vision problem.

  4. Step 4

Purchase the color of lens you want either the optometrist's office or online. If you purchase online, you will need the prescription from your optometrist. Look at the color charts for each contact lens brand to choose the right color.

  5. Step 5

Try on the contacts, if you purchase them from the optometrist's office. Sometimes the doctor will have samples of colored contacts you can try on. Make sure the contacts feel comfortable before purchasing more, and that the color looks like you want.

  6. Step 6

Take care of your contacts with the manufacturer's recommended contact solutions.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you already wear contacts and want to try a colored lens, call your optometrist and ask if they would be okay for you to wear. You can order them from him, or you can get the prescription of your current contact lens box, and order them online.
  • Shop around to get the best price. Contact prices vary widely from offices and online stores.
  • It is not a good idea to buy contacts from a site that claims their contacts will fit anyone. Contacts have sizes; just like clothing items have sizes and it is very important to have the correct size.
  • Don't wear anyone else's colored contact lenses to try them out. Contacts can carry eye diseases and borrowed lenses will most likely not be the right size and prescription.
  • Never substitute plain water for contact solution. Only the correct contact solution should be used.
