Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pine Wood
  • Saw
  • Stain or Paint
  • Nails or Screws
  • Ply Wood
  • Hammer or Screwdriver
  1. Step 1

Cut two pieces of pine wood for the top and bottom pieces. Cut the length according to how wide the box will be. Depending on how deep the box needs to be, use either 1 by 4 or 1 by 6 pieces.

  2. Step 2

Cut two side pieces. Choose a length depending on the height of the box. At this point the builder may or may not choose to cut smaller pieces to fit tightly together and create small compartments within the box.

  3. Step 3

Cut a piece of plywood to fit in the back of the shadow box, and screw or nail into place.

  4. Step 4

Screw the side pieces to the top and bottom pieces. Remember to put the best sides of the wood outward where they will be seen.

  5. Step 5

Cut molding to go around the top and bottom of the shadow box.

  6. Step 6

Stain, paint or varnish the wood to the desired look and color.

  7. Step 7

Fix the shadow box to that wall. This can be done in a variety of ways, but anchor the box to a beam in the wall since a shadow box made out of real wood will be heavy.
