1
Be polite. Most sellers on Ebay are not giant corporations, rather people who have a small home business or who are simply the casual seller. Think about what would entice you to buy. Obviously photos of the item and price, but also a friendly tone in the description that make you feel comfortable purchasing from that vendor. So in your opening line, be polite. Something like "Thanks so much for taking the time to look at my auction!" is a great way to start.

2
Write about how you received the item. Was it a gift? Did you lose the receipt? Maybe it's an antique that's been in your family for generations. By making it personal and explaining how you came upon the item, you will begin to build trust with a potential buyer.

Describe in detail. When you set out to write an Ebay auction description, put as much information about the specs as possible. How big is it? (length, width and height) How heavy is it? (This is important for shipping and handling.) What is the condition of the item? (Again this will be prevalent in the pictures, but it's helpful to describe as well too.)

Offer assistance. Even if you do not know the first thing about selling a hammer, you can attach a link to the company's website for the "hammer" so the people can gain additional information for themselves. Also admit that you are a novice (if you are) and gladly offer to answer questions people may have. After the auction is listed, potential buyers will be able to email you with specific questions through the actual listing.

5
Act real. Real people want to buy from real people. Ebay is like the ultimate flea market. Just write about the item in a conversational manner as if you were telling someone over the phone. Then close your eyes and have someone read the listing back to you. If you can visualize it, then you've done a great job!
