How to Go Jug Line Fishing
Jug fishing is way of covering a wide area for fishing with very little personnel or equipment. It is mainly used to capture catfish or other bottom dwellers. If done correctly you can catch a large amount of fish in a very short time period.

1
Attach the two different widths of nylon cord to your float. The float can be anything that will hold up under the weight and be visible from the surface. An empty milk jug does work, but make sure to clean out the inside and check what is required under your local laws.

2
Tie a hook on the end of the thinner nylon cord; it should be close to the bottom of the area you are fishing. The larger of the two cords should be tied to the smaller cord about a foot up from the hook. The larger cord is used to better see the line and to make it easier to grab a hook that has become tangled up at the bottom.

3
Attach the weight to the jug-line-hook assembly. You can use almost anything for the weight; the weight is supposed to serve as the anchor for the assembly, so that it will be close to where you left it.
-
4
Scout the area you will be fishing and place your jug line fishing device so that the hook lies close to the bottom. Tie excess line to the jug with a rubber band; this will allow any fish to grab the line if need be, but also will prevent excess slack from drifting in the water.

5
Place your jugs in the water over an extensive area, each jug should be monitored every hour to see if there is any catfish on your line. Any jugs that have caught fish can be re-baited and placed; an area that is constantly catching fish should have a higher concentration of jugs.
