Things You'll Need
- Wooden picture frame
- White or cream paint
- Yellow or light blue paint
- Fine sand paper
- Paint brush
- Primer
- Wood stain
- Glaze
- Sponge
- Clean cloth or old t-shirt
Instructions
-
-
1
Choose a plain wooden picture frame.
-
2
Sand the surface of the frame lightly and wipe off any dust with a damp cloth.
-
-
3
Apply one coat of primer to the frame and allow to dry.
-
4
Apply one coat of base paint (white or cream). This layer of paint will show through the final top coat. Dry thoroughly.
-
5
Apply your top coat of paint, typically yellow or light blue. This coat of paint can be applied with a traditional paint brush or even a sponge. Allow the top coat to dry completely.
-
6
Sand the edges and any other areas that would typically wear over time to add a distressed, aged and vintage look. You may also want to make a few indentations on the frame to give it a worn look as well, or even use a wire grill brush (lightly) to remove some of the paint.
-
7
Wipe the surface of the frame with a clean, dry cloth.
-
8
Apply one coat of a mixture of 1/2 glaze and 1/2 light wood stain with a clean cloth to add that additional vintage look to the frame. Allow to dry for 24 hours.
