Scoring a wrestling match can not only increase your knowledge of the sport, but also make it more enjoyable to watch. Scoring is easy if you pay close attention to the referee, learn the terminology and know what types of point-scoring moves to look for. These steps will get you started.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Grab a scorecard from an attendant at the match.

  2. Step 2

Purchase a program for the match. Wrestling programs usually contain a glossary of terms and and a key to the point totals for various moves.

  3. Step 3

Watch the referee's hands. The ref wears a green wristband on the right wrist to indicate the home team, and a red wristband on the left wrist to indicate the away team. When a scoing move is made, the ref will hold up the hand with the wristband corresponding to the scoring wrestler's team. The number of fingers the ref holds up equals the number of points scored in the move.

  4. Step 4

Keep track of the points each team scores during an individual match. At the end of an individual match, the ref will hold up the wrist of the winning wrestler. Total the points at the end of the individual match, and mark your scorecard to show the totals for each individual wrestler.

  5. Step 5

Add up each team's individual match scores to get the team totals. At the end of the tournament, the team with the highest point total wins.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can print out blank score cards from the Internet before going to a match. Wrestling programs are often available online ahead of time, too.
  • If you get lost, listen to the announcer. He or she will usually relay the score to the fans after each individual match. You can watch the scoreboard to keep track of team totals.
  • Don't be afraid to ask people sitting near you about the types of moves and how much they're worth. Fans can help you understand which moves earn bonus points.
  • Watch the referee; he or she has the final say in scoring.
