Step 1
Brainstorm what web pages your website will contain. It is often helpful to make a diagram of how your site will be organized. Make sure to include your navigation structure. This refers to how the pages of your website will be connected.
-
Step 2
Use paper to make a rough sketch of each page. Be sure to take into account what titles, text and graphics will be included.
-
Step 3
Select a piece of software specifically designed for constructing multi-page websites as opposed to a simple webpage editor. There are many options available for less than $100. Install the software on your computer.
-
Step 4
Explore the themes and page choices that are already available on your software. Find the one that best fits your vision for your website.
-
Step 5
Work through your software's website "wizard" to input your site information.
-
Step 6
Preview your site in a variety of browsers and on a variety of computers, to determine that your creation looks the way it should in different environments.
-
Step 7
Upload your site, including all of your pages and graphics to the webserver of your host provider.

on 9/8/2007 You can also go to www.channelme.tv. For $24.95, you can buy your domain name and build your site in a few minutes with their site templates. It includes videos, blog, photos, forums, widgets. You can have your friends' list, choose your privacy etc...It's really easy.

on 9/8/2007 The easiest, least expensive way to design a website is using yahoo.com small business website program for free. Sitebuilder is given to you if yahoo is hosting your site for only $12 a month. I have built 6 sites. However, that said building a website is easy doing it well is the challenge. Dreamweaver is an SOB to use. It is the difference between chopping wood, building a fire and killing an animal or putting food in the microwave.

on 9/7/2007 What's so "daunting"? Climbing Mt. Everest is daunting. Swimming the English Channel is daunting. Making a web page is child's play. A 12-year old could do it.

on 9/7/2007 If you do not feel quite up to designing a great site consider free web designs by the OSWD site... http://www.oswd.org/
I found 10 years ago the easiest way to start working on the web was editing, learn to edit a site to do what you want, and eventually you can create a site from scratch. With templates and software programs like Dreamweaver, Frontpage, Seamonkey by Mozilla (has an editor)-free, and NVU-free it is getting easy as writing a word document. The advanced features like dynamic scripting, and fluid layouts will eventually be obtainable, put as much time into web development in proportion to your skill expectations.
