Being crowned homecoming king or queen is an exciting event in any young man or woman's life. This goal is more achievable than many people think. Putting yourself out there, mingling, making friends and participating in school activities can make a huge difference in who's wearing that crown at the end of homecoming night.

Spread the Word That You Want the Title

1. Let your friends know in advance that you want to be crowned homecoming king or queen. This may encourage people to vote for you who may not have previously considered you as a candidate.

2. Take part in pre-homecoming events, such as activity and dance planning committees. This will introduce you to new people and can showcase your good ideas and school spirit.

3. Smile. Anyone can look miserable, but it takes a courageous and interesting person to be honestly fun and enthusiastic about developing a larger circle of friends.

4. Stand out by taking care with your appearance if you want to be noticed and eventually crowned homecoming king or queen.

5. Wear school colors to be known for your commitment to your high school. Traditionally, the homecoming king or queen is someone who embodies the best of what the school has to offer, including plenty of school spirit.

Create a Plan

6. Ask friends and classmates what qualities they look for in a homecoming king or queen. This will give you the "inside scoop" on the attitude and appearance to cultivate if you want to be a winner at homecoming.

7. Talk to your teachers about your interest in being homecoming king or queen. Some schools require faculty to come up with the initial list of nominees. You can ask a trusted faculty member whether you're a serious candidate and what you can do to bolster your image around campus.

8. Buy a homecoming outfit worthy of the title of royalty. Should you be crowned (and even if you aren't), you'll want to show up to the dance looking as if you deserve it.
