How to Wax Leg Hair

Waxing your legs entails a simple process that can produce finer, smoother hair. Follow these steps to do it correctly.

Things You'll Need:

  • Leg Waxing Kit
  • Fabric strips
  • Double boiler or microwave
  • Cool, slightly damp washcloth
  1. Step 1

    Purchase a wax kit that is specifically designed for leg hair, and contains washable waxing strips—these can be purchased separately if necessary.

  2. Step 2

    Read the wax kit’s instructions, paying particular attention to heating instructions.

  3. Step 3

    Heat wax according to the instructions. Test wax on the hairless part of the back of your hand to ensure that it is not too hot.

  4. Step 4

    Sit down on a clean uncarpeted surface. Moving in the direction of hair growth spread a thin layer of wax over a section of your calf that is smaller than your waxing strip to test for sensitivity.

  5. Step 5

    Quickly place the waxing strip over the warm wax and press down firmly. Allow the wax to cool slightly before moving on to the next step.

  6. Step 6

    Use one hand to pull the skin taut, and swiftly pull the fabric strip up and in the opposite direction of the hair growth.

  7. Step 7

    Allow skin a chance to settle down by placing a cool, slightly damp wash cloth over the waxed area. Move on to a new, possibly larger section when you are certain your skin is not sensitive to the product. Repeat the process until finished.

Tips & Warnings
  • Legs should be clean and dry before you wax.
  • Regularly exfoliate your legs using a scrub or loofah to prevent ingrown hairs.
  • The faster you pull off the strip, and the tighter you pull the surrounding skin, the less pain you will experience.
  • Never use wax that is too hot, and always follow heating instructions exactly.
  • Do not wax if you have diabetes, circulatory problems, varicose veins, warts, moles, hemophilia, acne, irritated or sunburned skin, or are prone to infection. Other conditions can be exacerbated by waxing, so read the label carefully or check with a dermatologist if you are unsure whether waxing is safe for you. Certain medications can also cause sensitivity, so check for interactions before waxing.
  • Do not continue to wax if your first attempt leaves skin sore or extremely sensitive.
