Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Read a book about Danish customs. Definitely Danish by Julie McDonald (Penfield Press) and Of Danish Ways by Ingeborg S. MacHaffie and Margaret A. Nielsen (Barnes & Noble Publishers) are both good choices.
Step2
Visit the American-Scandinavian Foundation in New York City. This group hosts exhibits and shows films from various Scandinavian countries. You can find the schedule of events on their website. You can find links to exhibits on the websites of the Danish American Society and the Danish American Women's Association.
Step3
Attend a Danish festival. There is a Danish village in Solvang, California, that can be visited year-round. Junction City, Oregon hosts a Scandinavian festival in August, and over 75,000 people attend the Danish festival in Greenville, Michigan, in August each year. Danish customs are the focus of these events.
Step4
Meet someone from Denmark. Every year, students, au pairs and other citizens of Denmark spend time in the United States. Listening and asking questions is, of course, a great way to learn about the customs of this wonderful country.
