If you often feel overwhelmed and defeated just trying to keep up with the housework, you're not alone. Many people just don't know where to begin, what to do or how to do it and they wind up throwing in the towel before they even begin. All you really need is to establish a few weekly routines to help you simplify housework and organize what needs to be done, then just stick with them.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • List of weekly housework
  • Enthusiasm
  • Timer
  • Organizational skills
  • Cleaning supplies
Step1
Identify your weekly to-do list. Examine your household and make a list of things done on a daily basis and what should be done on a weekly basis to make even a small improvement in cleaning and organizing your home.
Step2
Organize the weekly list into like items so you can follow a set routine. For example, clean out the refrigerator, your car, a section of the garage or a portion of the basement the day before you put out the trash for weekly pickup.
Step3
Select a day for weekly laundry chores. Pick one day each week to routinely strip all the beds to wash sheets, shake out the rugs, drop off or pick up dry cleaning, sew on a button and cover any other items on your weekly laundry list.
Step4
Choose a day to vacuum, dust, mop the kitchen floor and clean the bathrooms. You can do all of these on the same day, or spread them out throughout the week, as long as they are done routinely each week.
Step5
Don't obsess about the details or spend an entire day trying to make things perfect or you'll defeat yourself before you begin. Remember that you're establishing new, weekly routines to organize and simplify housework, not create even more work for yourself.
Step6
Set time limits using a timer and stop what you're doing when it rings. Set reasonable time limits such as ten minutes to clean the bathroom or five minutes getting some trash out of your car. Don't burn yourself out.
Step7
Be consistent with your weekly routines. Housework will be much more simple and organized when done routinely.

Tips & Warnings

  • Have two complete sets of sheets for each bed in the house. After stripping the dirty sheets off each week just put the clean set on.
