How to Make Iced Tea in a Microwave

Making tea in a microwave is a great alternative when your coffee pot is dirty or the iced tea maker breaks. Follow these steps for a quick and simple way to make tea in the microwave.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Gather your supplies. These include four small tea bags, or two large, and a large microwave safe cup or bowl.

  2. Step 2

    Pour 2 cups of water into the microwave safe cup or bowl.

  3. Step 3

    Tear off the paper tags on the tea bags, or plan to hang them over the side of the cup or bowl.

  4. Step 4

    Place the tea bags in the water. Hang the paper tags off the side of the container if you did not tear them off.

  5. Step 5

    Put the microwave safe container into the microwave and heat for 3 minutes.

  6. Step 6

    Fill a one gallon pitcher with ice. After the microwave turns off, carefully pour the hot tea into the pitcher.

  7. Step 7

    Add enough cold water to the pitcher to fill it to the top.

Tips & Warnings
  • This recipe is for making a gallon of iced tea. Adjust the amount of water up or down for making more or less tea.
  • You can make hot tea by putting the tea from the microwave into a carafe or hot pot and then filling it with hot water.
  • To make sweet tea, add a cup of sugar to the hot tea from the microwave. Allow the sugar to dissolve before pouring the tea into the ice-filled pitcher.
  • The tea will be very hot from the microwave. Use extreme caution when handling it to avoid burns.
