Gain a basic understanding of astrology through Astrology.com (see Resources below). The website can help you determine your Sun, Moon and Venus signs, which help indicate emotional and relationship needs.

Compare sun signs. The 12 signs are broken into the four elements--air, water, fire and earth. People whose sun signs fall in the same element get along best because they share the same basic outlook on life and goals.

Check out the Moon and Venus. The more signs you have in common, the more likely the person is to be similar to you. If you believe your soul mate needs to be a version of you in the opposite sex, then make sure the Venus and Moon signs at least line up in the same element.
