If the world of Vampires and Werewolves interest you, then World of Darkness may be the role playing game you are looking for. Create a character that finds out what really goes on after dark in the stories that you make. Choose to fight on the side of good--or evil.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Several 10-sided dice
  • Two or more players
  • Copy of World of Darkness
  • Adventurer's sheet

Step1
Invite a group of friends over to play. You need at least 2 people, but having more players will make the game more exciting.
Step2
Pick who will be the Game Master. Since World of Darkness is a storytelling game, it is helpful if the Game Master is comfortable telling a story.
Step3
Create an adventurer's sheet, or use the one that comes with the game. You will use this sheet throughout the entire game to keep track of your character's skills and attributes.
Step4
Think about what kind of character you would like to play. World of Darkness does not have specific character classes or races to choose from. Instead, you will rank in order of importance the following attributes: mental, social and physical. The order you choose is important. A higher ranking will give you more points to spend on that area.
Step5
Choose the skills and attributes your character will have. Assign a value to each attribute or skill until you run out of points.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can download a set of introductory rules from the game publisher (White Wolf). The rules are not as comprehensive as the full version, but it will give you a good feel for how the game plays. See Resources below.
  • Unlike most role playing games where you roll dice to determine the skills your character will have, in World of Darkness you have complete control.
  • World of Darkness is a good role playing game to try if you are turned off by the heavy fantasy elements found in other games. The setting of Worlds of Darkness can be your local town. It's what happens at night and behind the scenes that creates the story.
  • The emphasis is on storytelling rather than adherence to rules and dice rolling. Use your imagination to enhance game play. Try playing the game at night to increase the atmosphere of your stories.
