How to Remove Scuff Marks from Wood Floors

Scuff marks are inevitable on wood flooring, but they are easy to remove. However, wood is very sensitive and if removed incorrectly, may have devastating effects. The following will help you in your efforts to remove scuff marks without a problem.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • mineral spirits
  • fine steel wool
  • oil
  • furniture wax
  • clean white cotton cloth rag
  • WD-40
  • pencil eraser
  1. Step 1

    Use a dry white cotton cloth to wipe the scuff marks with mineral spirits.

  2. Step 2

    Allow the mineral spirits to dry.

  3. Step 3

    Polish the area.

  4. Step 4

    Wipe with oil and fine steel wool if you do not have mineral spirits.

  5. Step 5

    Wax with furniture wax.

Tips & Warnings
  • Sometimes a clean pencil eraser will take off scuff marks. WD-40 is also known to remove and shine wood flooring.
  • Keep children away from the removal products.
  • Do not use vinegar in your efforts to remove the gum.
  • NEVER use ammonia or bleach to clean wood floors.
