Step1
Apply for the marriage license in person at an Alabama county courthouse. Both bride and groom must be present, but Alabama residency is not required.
Step2
Present proof of age and identity. A driver's license, state-issued birth certificate or passport are acceptable forms of identification.
Step3
Fill out the application. Applicants may also be asked to provide their social security numbers, education levels, states of birth and the names of their parents.
Step4
Pay the license fee and head to the altar. There is no waiting period in Alabama, and the marriage license is valid for 30 days from date of issuance.
Step5
If either applicant has been married before, present the certified document that ended that marriage (divorce decree, annulment paper or death certificate). Applicants may not apply for a new license until 60 days after a divorce is granted (the date of the written decree), unless they are marrying their former spouse.
