We all have vastly different body types, so before you buy your next tube of deodorant, carefully consider your own body type as well as the available options on the market today.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Consider your height and weight. Are you tall and thin? Shorter and pear-shaped? These attributes not only comprise your outward image, but also may play a role in what type of deodorant is best for your body type.

  2. Step 2

Consider structural attributes of your body type. If you’re tall and thin, are you a big-boned thin or a small-boned thin? If you have a more husky or athletic build, is your weight comprised of bone weight, muscle weight or body fat weight? Each structural difference will affect how deodorant works with your body type.

  3. Step 3

Consider internal factors of your body type. Do you have any chronic diseases or illnesses that may have permanently changed your body type, or the way in which your body reacts to products like deodorant?

  4. Step 4

Consider your lifestyle and how it may affect your body type or the way your body reacts to products like deodorant. Many factors, such as where you work, what activities you participate in, what you eat, and the stress that affects you can all change how your body will process deodorant.

  5. Step 5

After you have considered the fundamental and structural attributes of your body type, make deodorant decisions appropriate to your height and weight. Typically, if you have low body fat you will also have less body odor, and so you may only need a mild deodorant to combat smell.

  6. Step 6

If you are of a larger body type, you may be interested in choosing a stronger deodorant, as your body may secrete and release more odors.

  7. Step 7

Body types are often affected by internal systems or lifestyle decisions. If you have an underlying factor that causes your body to put out more or less odor, choose a stronger or lighter deodorant accordingly.

  8. Step 8

Likewise, if you have an illness or disorder that causes sensitive skin and reactions to synthetic products, choose a hypoallergenic deodorant that has a natural scent or is unscented.

Tips & Warnings
  • All bodies are created differently! Get to know your own body before making decisions that affect your skin and health.
  • Body types can change with time and age. What works in your 20s may irritate your body in your 30s. Be aware of any changes in your body and make decisions accordingly.
