Saving a transparent Portable Network Graphics (PNG) image with Adobe ImageReady is very similar to using Photoshop. You can make a transparent PNG with ImageReady and benefit from the higher level of transparency support and the smaller file size.

      Open Adobe ImageReady. Click on the "ImageReady" icon located on your desktop, or access it from the program files listed in your Start menu (if using Windows).

      Open an image that already has transparency. In order to save your PNG image with transparency, the image must already have transparency. Read on to learn how to create a transparent image.

      Convert the file to RBG format if it is not already. From the Image menu at the top, select "Mode" and choose "RBG Color."

      Create a transparent image. Use one of the following methods for to save a transparent image.

      Use the Magic Eraser tool. Press "Shift + E" to access the tool. Click on the areas of the photo you want to be transparent.

      Use the Magic Wand tool. Press the "W" key to activate the tool. Choose the colors you want to make transparent and press the "Backspace" key.

      Open the Optimize Palette. Press the "F10" key or click window from menu at the top of the screen. Select "Show Optimize" from the drop-down menu.

      Press the "4-UP" optimization tab on the far right of the Optimize Palette. This allows you to visually compare your original image to your optimized image. Select "PNG-8" or "PNG-24" from the Optimized File drop-down menu.

      Save the image. Click "File" from the menu at the top of your screen and select "Save Optimized As..."

Tips & Warnings

  • ImageReady shows transparency with a checkered background. If you open an image without a checkered background, you will need to add transparency to it before you can save it as a transparent PNG image file.

  • Save time when saving a file. Press "Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S" to instantly save your image.

  • Be sure to enable transparency when you save your image.
