While many women prefer to skip this important part of their daily skin-care regime, removing your makeup before you go to bed is important to keep your skin clean and healthy-looking, let your skin “breathe” while you sleep, and prevent mascara smudges and foundation stains from making their way onto your pillow.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Towel and wash cloth
  • Moisturizer
  • Cotton balls and Q-tips, as needed
  • Eye makeup remover
  • Facial cleanser
  1. Step 1

Pull bangs and long hair back with a headband, clips or a ponytail holder.

  2. Step 2

Remove your eye makeup first using a suitable eye makeup remover.

  3. Step 3

Apply the remover to your wash cloth or a cotton ball, and gently wipe over your eyes, making sure to get the eye lashes, eye lids, brow line and area underneath the eyes.

  4. Step 4

Use a Q-tip to remove any traces of makeup you were unable to reach (particularly eye liner).

  5. Step 5

    Rinse with warm water.

  6. Step 6

Apply your facial cleanser to your wash cloth or directly onto your face and neck, and massage in a circular motion until your entire facial and neck areas are covered in a nice, foamy lather. Make sure to avoid the eye area.

  7. Step 7

Leave the cleanser on your face and neck for several minutes to let it work its “magic.”

  8. Step 8

Rinse your face and neck with warm water and pat dry with a towel.

  9. Step 9

Apply a light layer of facial moisturizer to your face and neck before you head to bed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try using baby oil or baby shampoo with a cotton ball or Q-tip to remove waterproof mascara. Rinse with warm water.
  • After removing makeup, exfoliate your skin with a facial exfoliator or exfoliation scrub and a facial loofah or sponge twice a week.
  • Don’t use your facial cleanser to remove your eye makeup. This could irritate the eye area.
  • Avoid using eye makeup remover to remove the rest of your makeup. This may cause breakouts.
  • Don’t use regular soap to wash your face or remove makeup. Soap is generally too harsh and abrasive for facial cleansing.
