Determine your skin's color and ability to tan. Even if you have very dark skin, however, you still need sunscreen.

Select a sunscreen that moisturizes to avoid dryness.

Choose a sunscreen based on your daily activities. For example, if you will be in the water, choose a waterproof sunscreen.

Read the label of your sunscreen. It should provide UVA and UVB protection.

Determine the SPF strength you need. Generally, SPF 15 is adequate, with applications throughout the day if you're spending long hours in the sun. However, if you burn more easily, SPF 30 or more might be necessary.

Use a sunscreen made specifically for your skin type. Although any sunscreen is better than none at all, a sunscreen made specifically for your skin type will be more gentle on your skin.

There is soooooooo much more to learn about sunscreen, like what spf means how much to apply, when to apply, why you sometimes get burned anyway, etc., etc.. In fact, I think I will write one! -
